Waiting in Isolation

Waiting in Isolation is an installation using ceramics, vacuum storage bags, ceramic insects, and bird wings to show people living under the shadow global pandemic in 2020. The white insects are isolated in the frame by the vacuum storage bags, reflecting the isolation of people living alone during the pandemic.
The white ceramic insects are a metaphor for society. The various life situations in an environment of isolation, brought on by the pandemic, have been ridiculed. The white insects are isolated in the frame by vacuum bags, reflecting the isolation of people living alone during the pandemic. At the same time, ironically the vacuum packaging bags portray an insect society where each person is a commodity on a shelf. Ceramics endow insects with fragility and hardness, and also reflect the fragility and indomitable spirit of human beings. The bird wings are a symbol of angels and hope, while the stubborn beetle has strong vitality. Even though freedom is temporarily lost in a vacuum, it keeps people clean and fresh. The beetle with its wings will fly again and gives hope in a suffocating environment. This is the purpose and meaning of this work.
The vacuum packaging bag represents life in isolation under the pandemic, and people's isolation status under protective clothing. At the same time, it shows people's helplessness and suffocation in the market economy. Moreover, the real world is distorted when viewed through the vacuum packaging bag, allowing the viewer to experience what the world looks like in the eyes of the packaged insect. The idea is to use insects, plastic bags, and wings to show the life of isolation, humble insects, and the betrayed labor of a commodity society. Different people will see themselves differently through this work, but irrespective, being in isolation just means waiting.
