Moon Crown
This work is inspired by the traditional headwear of Yi women from Liangshan, China. As the Yi ethnic group reveres the color white, white porcelain is chosen as the medium to explore the contemporary expression of ethnic symbols. The overall form draws reference from the iconic "moon crown" shape, symbolizing the gentle yet mysterious cultural connection between women and the moon, embodying a sense of serenity, resilience, and purity. In terms of craftsmanship, the work incorporates 3D modeling and ceramic 3D printing technology to digitally reproduce intricate patterns and structures with precision. It is then combined with traditional hand carving and high-temperature firing techniques, enhancing both accuracy and artistic texture. The use of 3D printing not only improves the efficiency and controllability of the creative process but also expands the possibilities of white porcelain in structural expression and lightweight design. This piece aims to bridge tradition and modernity, ethnicity and technology, through a cross-media fusion of white porcelain and silver adornment motifs. It reinterprets the aesthetic imagery of feminine ornaments in Yi culture, allowing the stillness of white porcelain to speak of memory and spirit through light and shadow. The work serves as both a technical exploration of porcelain’s expressive potential and a cultural tribute to the vitality of ethnic art.
