Cultural Puzzle – Fragmented Phrases: Jingdezhen
This work uses ancient ceramic shards from Jingdezhen as its primary medium, with each fragment originating from the Yuan, Ming, or Qing dynasties. These pieces have borne witness to the evolution of history and the transmission of craftsmanship. The fragments, weathered by time, are dismantled, reassembled, and welded into a structure that appears random yet carries an underlying logic—like a fragmented but continuous cultural phrase being spoken anew. The title “Cultural Puzzle” symbolizes the recombination of broken ceramic pieces to reconstruct a complete cultural context, reflecting the regeneration and innovation of traditional craftsmanship under contemporary aesthetics. The term “Fragmented Phrases” brings a poetic nuance to the work, suggesting that each shard is more than a physical remnant—it carries with it layers of historical memory and regional identity, conveying the legacy and depth of ceramic culture. By incorporating glass welding techniques, the piece highlights a dialogue between materials, where the collision and fusion of porcelain and glass embody a technical and artistic intersection. Through the rebirth of fragments, the work metaphorically explores the transmission of cultural memory, presenting a contemporary artist’s deep reflection on traditional craft, local heritage, and the spirit of the times within a globalized context.
