Continuum

Emotions and expressions unfold in an unceasing continuum, akin to the perpetual flow of a river. Each present feeling subtly shapes the emergence of the next, as we exist in a state of constant flux and transformation. This reflects the Buddhist concept of "continuity" (Xiangxu) – not a sequence of disconnected fragments, but an unbroken stream wherein consciousness, affective states, and life conditions perpetually arise and undergo metamorphosis. Amidst this ceaseless flux, one might inquire: Can we access a deeper stillness? This stillness is not the negation of emotion, but rather its profound acceptance: an understanding of sorrow, a cherishing of joy, and a spacious tolerance for the ever-shifting self. Just as the turbulent river ultimately merges into the serenity of the lake, so too does dynamic change contain inherent peace, and ceaseless motion embrace profound stillness.
