UNRAVELED CUBE

The work " Unraveled Cube" suggests the idea of a delicate material, much like silk fabrics. If we observe draped fabrics, we find a silence in the way they fall, a stillness in their motionless resting. Silence and stillness—human characteristics we attribute to objects, and therefore, in these objects, we can see ourselves as human beings. Working with this theme of delicate textiles, I would like my works to convey the essence of human qualities such as subtlety, peace, fragility, and serenity. The nature of fragility is suggested in my work by the unraveling of the fabric and the deformation of the form.To achieve these two effects,I used: 1. numerous small coils shaped and placed one by one on the surface of the slab; and 2. collapsing the porcelain during high-temperature firing, which helped express a natural and spontaneous form. The contrast I sought by adding the dark, cold and rough cement cube as a base focuses attention on the delicate white porcelain and helps make it more evident.
