butterflies in flight
My research is developed through illusory and light works that refer to the ephemeral nature of ceramics. The wall installation “Butterflies in Flight,” was made by combining one wing of the butterfly made of porcelain and Plexiglas and the other only virtual because it is generated by its own shadow created by a side light. Poetry and emotion are the main elements: one part of the work is real while the other is temporary because the shadows are ephemeral and elusive. In Greek mythology, the butterfly is a symbol of the soul, lightness and volatility of the vital spirit. The butterfly is also a symbol of fragility, of beauty but also of the brevity of life, of non-permanence but also of happiness. The butterfly is the personification of the breath of the soul. In this way, the expressive and metamorphic world of shadows is evident. As a ceramic artist, I have developed some personal techniques, working mainly with porcelain and experimenting with paper clay. The butterflies are made with a syringe for spreading slip.
