Teal Coral Vessel # 2
In this work I was aiming to create a vessel that has an archetypal yet contemporary form, integrating an applied coral-like surface I have been experimenting with. My intension is to create a visual synthesis between design and decay, I want to create things that speak to the qualities found in nature, things that silently whisper of beauty and oblivion in equal measure. The vessel was thrown on the potters wheel and turned to sculpt the form from a stoneware and porcelain mx. A coral pattern was applied joined and refined. The work is then fired to 1240 and dipped in a thick porcelain several times and again fired to 1240. The final colour is a sprayed on underglaze which takes several firings to complete.
