Untitled (#388)
My sculptures re-imagine Baroque grandeur by stripping away its ornamental excess, drawing upon the natural morphology of Ernst Haeckel's organic illustrations, the constructed reliefs of Lee Bontecou's wall sculptures, and Louise Nevelson's monochromatic works. I create an imagined biology that ranges from the microscopic to the macroscopic, blending animal and plant forms with a new perspective. The all white forms depart from the color of living nature, yet their shapes and undulating patterns create an animated sense of motion and change that seemingly makes them feel alive.
