Traces of Time

Traces of Time explores the quiet tension between surface fragility and internal strength. These ceramic works are inspired by patterns and processes found in the natural world—cracked lake beds in arid desert landscapes, the clean geometry of crystals, the movement of waves, and the slow orbit of celestial bodies. Such imagery speaks to the layered passage of geological time and the rhythms that quietly shape the world around us. Made from white porcelain, each piece is intentionally constructed to develop cracked surfaces, evoking erosion, sedimentation, and the slow transformation of matter. Despite their fragile appearance, the forms are fully vitrified—stable, enduring, and strong. This contrast between visual delicacy and material resilience lies at the heart of the work. The two pieces are conceived as a conversation—each distinct, yet deeply connected. Their relationship evokes the natural dialogue between opposing forces: light and shadow, movement and stillness, accretion and erosion. Placed together, they suggest a kind of balance, echoing the quiet rhythms and subtle tensions found in the natural world. The works invite close attention and reflection. Their quiet presence suggests a state of suspended energy—forms caught in the midst of becoming, or slowly returning to the earth. Through this interplay of strength and vulnerability, permanence and impermanence, the work encourages a deeper awareness of the forces we often overlook: time, gravity, and natural change. In translating ephemeral patterns into durable ceramic form, Traces of Time becomes both a record and a meditation—an invitation to consider not only the material world, but our place within its unfolding.
