Contemporary ceramic arts should not distinguish between “traditional” and “contemporary”. It is simply what is happening in the arts today. The creative spirit freely and simultaneously brings China and the West together. The artists may use material media showing a wide variety of expressions, instead of being restricted. Contemporary ceramic arts should be filled with insights of the current era, but at the same time should not lose their roots in history and tradition.
Blanc de Chine has unique beauty. I prefer to call it “Chinese Snow”. It is aesthetically incomparable to any other ceramic material in the world. Hopefully, more artists will understand and use white porcelain to create fresh new works, presenting us with a new interpretation of contemporary ceramics and promoting them on a sublime level in this new era.
